When he first visited us we almost couldn't offer him a place to sit. There was none. Sure, we had an editorial office but even hadn't got enough of those shabby chairs left behind by the previous residents. We ourselves barely began to get used to the drab walls and the new office.

And then he just turned up, introduced himself and offered to join forces. In short, he didn't hang fire. Which is otherwise quite commendable of an agile machine-gunner but it seemed an unexpected restlessness for a nature photographer who is supposed to have the patience of Job.

We listened to him, we nodded - where were we then with getting busy with our own materials?! - and then let him go.

But, as it turned out later, not for long.

He has been returning ever since. With pictures.

And we've been offering him a place ever since. Not just in the editorial office. In the magazine, too...”
